Museums in Ho Chi Minh City: Which Should You Visit?
Four different museums, four reasons to go. Choose between war history, art, earlier history and the story of the city itself.

The best museum for your trip depends on what you want to understand, not how many stops you can tick off. War Remnants is an emotionally demanding choice; the Fine Arts Museum gives the day an artistic focus. The History Museum and City Museum answer different questions, despite their similar-sounding names.
Visit lengths are LVN planning estimates. Prices and opening hours can change; check the linked source before travelling.
1. War Remnants Museum
28 Vo Van Tan, Ho Chi Minh City
Allow 90–120 minutes
This is a serious visit, not a light sightseeing stop. Photographs and exhibits address the effects of war, including its impact on civilians. Read the exhibition notices before entering with children, and allow a quiet break afterwards rather than scheduling another demanding museum immediately.
Open 07:30–17:30 daily; admission stops at 17:00. The official ticket site lists standard admission at 60,000 VND from 1 October 2026. Some exhibitions may be temporarily unavailable.

97A Pho Duc Chinh, Ho Chi Minh City
Allow 60–90 minutes
Make this your art-focused stop rather than trying to fit it between two history museums. Give the permanent collection and any temporary exhibition their own time. A short visit with attention to a few works is more rewarding than rushing through every room for photographs.
The museum publishes visiting hours of 08:00–17:00, Monday to Sunday. Check its exhibition notices and current ticket price before visiting; do not assume an old exhibition is still running.

2 Nguyen Binh Khiem, Ho Chi Minh City
Allow 60–90 minutes
Use this museum to give a city break a longer historical perspective. Choose a few periods or collections to follow instead of treating every display as a compulsory stop. It works well as a focused morning visit, with lunch and a less structured afternoon afterwards.
The official schedule is Tuesday–Sunday, 08:00–11:30 and 13:00–17:00; closed Monday. Avoid arriving during the midday break. Check the current admission notice on the museum website.

65 Ly Tu Trong, Ho Chi Minh City
Allow 60–90 minutes
Pick the city museum when your main question is about Saigon itself. Its city-focused exhibitions make a useful counterpoint to broader national-history collections. It is also a manageable addition to a central walking day, rather than a separate journey across town.
This is the museum at 65 Ly Tu Trong, not the Ho Chi Minh Museum at Nha Rong Wharf. Check the official visitor information for tickets, opening hours and temporary exhibitions.

Choose by interest
For modern conflict and its consequences, choose War Remnants. For paintings and exhibitions, choose Fine Arts. For a broader historical introduction, choose the History Museum. For a city-focused visit, choose the museum on Ly Tu Trong.
Plan around breaks and closures
Do not assume all museums keep the same hours. In particular, the History Museum closes on Monday and takes a midday break. Allow a meal or café stop between visits rather than planning back-to-back arrival times.
Visiting with children
Check exhibition content before choosing War Remnants for younger visitors. Let children choose one object or artwork to discuss rather than asking them to complete every room. Confirm facilities and access with each museum before setting out.
